Immigration Law Issues

Born in a small village on the beautiful tropical island of Mauritius, Shah Peerally moved to the United States in the 1990s, where he studied law. After graduating, he formed the Law Offices of Shah Peerally, which ultimately became the Shah Peerally law group. During his law school days, Shah was a witness to the sad events of 9/11, which naturally caused wide spread anger. Consequently, Shah noticed a lot of indiscriminate violence on the immigrant community in the US. As an immigrant and a law student, it was difficult for him to understand the motivation behind the religious extremism being rampantly practiced. His main concern then as it is now, is to save the immigrant community from unnecessary backlash and branding as terrorists. It was with this thought that he helped create the "Know Your Rights" guide for immigrants, which went on to become extremely popular, because it spoke as a voice for many immigrants. He later followed up with various speeches in different churches, temples and mosques teaching immigrants about their civil rights and how they should learn to fight back. Today, Shah Peerally is an attorney licensed in California, immigration law. The Peerally Law Group deals with issues related to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and Customs Border Patrol (CBP) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Shah’s work has assumed meaningful proportions, especially with the assistance he provided to the students of Tri Valley University, during the scam that affected so many students from outside. As a lawyer, Shah has also acted as a face for many while petitioning the U.S. Government to change laws related to immigration that discriminate against innocent immigrants. As a part of his work in spreading the message of rights for immigrants and creating awareness, Shah has graduated to film-making under his home banner, Shah Peerally Productions Inc.. As a part of this, he has scripted the film Shattered Freedom which was selected at the Third World Movie Festival. In addition he is the executive producer of various sensitive films that deal with immigration issues, such as The Lost Dream, The Immigration Fraud, and The Immigration Interview. The films and his book are an attempt to highlight important problems with regards to immigration and the plight of immigrants. "The Immigration Lawyer - Asylum" - Inspired by True Immigration Stories

The Immigration Lawyer Asylum - Shah Peerally

A legal thriller by Shah Peerally which is entertaining and highly inspirational for people of all ages. A tale inspired by the work of US immigration lawyers.

FREMONT, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, March 2, 2014  -- Shah Peerally, an immigration lawyer, who has handled thousands of immigration cases, understands the hardship faced by new immigrants. During law school, Shah has noticed new immigrants aren’t fully aware of their legal rights which render them vulnerable to abuses. As a result, Shah started his career by volunteering to help the immigrant community speaking in religious institutions such as Mosques, Temples and Churches about legal rights.

After working for two prestigious law firms, in 2005, he opened the Law Offices of Shah Peerally which will ultimately become the Shah Peerally Law Group PC. In 2010, Shah started a radio show on AM radio KLOK 1170 AM and an online radio at www.AttorneyOnAir.com. His radio shows are a praised for helping thousands understand the law and making a good decision on their cases. In the same spirit of helping the community, in 2011 Shah started a small production company (Shah Peerally Productions Inc). The company gained momentum by releasing three movies including one full feature film and two short dramas, two of which were selected for the movie festivals. All the movies tackle immigration law problems and other socially sensitive issues such as domestic violence, INA 221g Administrative Processing and Immigration Fraud.

Today Shah is considered one of the most respected attorneys of his time. He has been featured as an expert on major TV networks such as NDTV, Times now and his work published several major newspapers. He has been rated by Avvo.com as a Superb attorney with a perfect 10/10 score, and in 2013 was selected as a Rising Star by Superlawyers.com. With his social activism, Shah hopes to better the lives of the immigrants through education and advocacy. Recently Shah has been focusing on writing books as a means to educate the community.

Shah's new book, "The Immigration Lawyer Asylum," seems to have all the ingredients to keep the reader captivated including how a US immigration court functions. Being an attorney author, he wants to use his book to assist the average US citizen and immigrants to understand the realities of being a new immigrant. In this book, he covers immigration law, hate crimes and other sensitive issues and their implication on society.

Reading this book will fascinate you, especially because it has realistic law notions embedded into a fiction novel. "The Immigration Lawyer Asylum" was written from the attorney author’s perspective, and all the US immigration issues found between the lines have been experienced by Shah Peerally. The main character in the book is Sarah, a corporate lawyer deciding to practice immigration law. Not satisfied with the corporate world, she decides to become an immigration lawyer to fight for immigrants' equal rights to justice. As a result, she joins SPLG, an immigration law firm in California and take the case of Ahmad. Ahmad is a visitor from Iraq, who despite having a valid entry visa is apprehended at that San Francisco airport on pretext of immigration violations. In fact, the actual motive of his arrest was that he was suspected of being a terrorist.

Jack Magnus from Readers' Favorites gives the book a 5 Stars: "...I am so impressed by The Immigration Lawyer. This legal thriller by Shah Peerally is entertaining and highly inspirational -- and not only for young adults. I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to make a difference, especially law students and young lawyers who aren't quite sure about their career plans. Peerally sets out the procedural steps by which Sarah helps Ahmad simply and eloquently, and he makes accessible what has always seemed to me to be a very complicated branch of law. 'The Immigration Lawyer' also explores the all-too-real plight of immigrants in the U.S. after the 9/11 attacks who have been the victims of hate-crimes, and it does all this in an entertaining graphic novel format. The Immigration Lawyer is remarkable and a definite must-read."

Will the seeds of racism, hatred, and suspicion planted by terrorists in the minds of people allowReaders Favorite 5 Stars him to live a life of liberty and justice? Is the Department of Homeland Security being overzealous while dealing with non-white immigrants? Ahmad is lucky to find a good lawyer in Sarah. She is willing to go that extra mile to make sure that justice is done and the American judicial system can uphold the values that it stands for.

The Immigration Lawyer is short, precise, and concise. Ahmad is like any other immigrant who is seeking asylum without much knowledge of the strict laws. The book gives wonderful insight into the American judicial system. The fact that there are lawyers who want to help people who are are vulnerable because of their race, religion, color etc is heartening. The book highlights the rights and options available for immigrants seeking asylum and helps to highlight their actual plight and status through the protagonist's story. The attacks on innocents by people who have limited knowledge about different nationalities and religions show how ignorance and hatred actually destroys the fabric of our society. The Immigration Lawyer: Asylum by Shah Peerally is fiction story depicting life in post 9/11 America. In a bid to escape the political injustice and the torture he had been subjected to in his country, Ahmad travelled to America to visit his family and hopefully escape the torture back home. Unfortunately, his entry into the 'promised land' did not go past the airport, where he was detained and taken to a maximum security prison. Sarah is a brilliant lawyer who has just left corporate law, looking for something more fulfilling and Ahmed's case could not have landed into the hands of a more dedicated lawyer. Sarah believes her client is innocent, and with the help of a few other people, dedicates herself to making sure he gets the freedom he deserves.

The Immigration Lawyer is a touching story about the life of Muslims in America after the tragic 9/11 attacks. Shah Peerally, through this story of a man's search for freedom and justice, shows how 9/11 changed the way people looked at Muslims, especially in America, forgetting the rule of innocent until proven guilty and replacing it with guilty until proven innocent. The book also tells the stories of the brave men and women who go above their call of duty every day to see that justice prevails. It is a touching story with a brilliant plot, showing a country pushed into an era where the need to ensure national security compromises the requirement to ensure justice for all.

The Immigration Lawyer Asylum - Shah Peerally

This work of fiction covers the journey of Ahmad, a man fleeing Iraq during the rule of Saddam Hussein, to seek refuge in the United States. He is escaping because the Iraqi government has been torturing him for years thinking he is a CIA agent. Ironically, he faces an interesting ordeal in the hands of the United States Immigration.

The US government, on the other hand, believes that he is a terrorist. While he is entering California on valid visitor B1/B2 visa, he is apprehended on immigration charges and placed in immigration custody. At this point, a new nightmare starts.

The book is a very unique attempt to describe some of the important issues in immigration law including Asylum, marriage petitions, U Visas, a clear description of an immigration court case and other immigration issues.

Written by Shah Peerally, an immigration lawyer , the book depicts the events inside the US Immigration court and the Department of Homeland Security. The book also echoes the sentiment of many immigrants who went through the difficult process. Moreover, the book brings to light the hate and discrimination of immigrants. Although a work of fiction, the book is a good guide on a number of immigration issues while depicting the triumph of the American justice system.

  • What does a famed immigration attorney do when he wants to educate his wide audience on his area of special interest?  He “does a Grisham” and writes a book.  Shah Peerally is a well known legal commentator and immigration attorney, but he is also a humanitarian and activist keen to educate people on immigration and other issues.

And so he has written a work of fiction that will captivate readers: “The Immigration Lawyer Asylum”.

Broadway World reports that at an early stage Shah realized that most new immigrants aren’t fully aware of their legal rights which render them vulnerable to abuses. As a result, Shah spent much of the beginning of his career speaking about ‘Know Your Rights’ in mosques, churches and temples.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Provoking and Moving Story February 23, 2014
Format:Paperback

I bought this book after doing some research on the harrassment of immigrants to America following the events of September 11th. I bought this book with a few things in mind. The most important probably being that I wanted to read something contreversial that may, in some way, enlighten me to a different point of view. This book did just that. It was executed tastefully and written well.

The book is about a lawyer named Sarah who specifically fights for the rights of immigrants. I suppose in a few ways business mixes with pleasure- for she is married to a Muslim immigrant. So naturally her heart knows the people she is fighting for- she knows their rights- and she knows they deserve equal treatment.

But alas, no matter how 'free' America is- is it truly free? That's where this book takes us. On a journey into the depths of how immigrants are often treated (or should I say 'mistreated) by our government, our natural-born citizens, and our legal justice system.

The book follows the story of a few people. Sarah struck me as one of the more important characters- for she's the lawyer that helps so many of them. But another character is Ahmad, an immigrant to America from the Middle East. In Ahmad's life outside of the US he faced many hardships and unfortunes. He in many ways was left broken, tortured, fearful, and untrusting. But as with so many modern American immigrants he comes to the US with the hopes of a better future. After confiding in the US government on his negative experiences overseas- rather than being helped, Ahmad is essentially taken (what I would call) 'legal hostige'.

Sarah, becomes the lawyer who takes the case. And as you can imagine many things escelate from there. The story is a very fulfilling read.

From the start The Immigration Lawyer: Asylum made an impression, weaving a complicated tale of a fight for a better future and a fight for equality. The novel manages to hook you with a very present political and social hotbed issue of immigration, presenting a truly fascinating glimpse into immigration law and what many immigration lawyers have to go up against every day to help their clients get the chance at a better life.

The novel has a heartfelt and emotion rich subject that explores the uphill battle lawyers face as they try to breakdown the walls of injustice and inequality, bringing hope to those who come to America for asylum, immigration and more. Mr. Peerally really captures the intricate web of laws, rules and regulations as well as the tireless hoops that lawyers must jump through to traverse the immigration system. The novel doesn't shy away from the brutal truth, highlighting the problems that are all too often found in this system from prejudice to corruption and everything in between.

This is an engaging novel that runs the gamut of emotions and offers readers a look at the immigration system and just how people like Ahmad suffer simply for who they are and their wish to come to this country for a brighter future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Compelling & Insightful Novel February 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was recommended "The Immigration Lawyer: Asylum (Volume 1)" by a friend and I have to say that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Shah Peerally provides a uniquely compelling look into the immigration progress and the atmosphere for immigrants, drawing the reader in and helping them to see through different eyes of the struggles that immigrants face. It's well-written, vivid in detail, emotionally captivating and uses strong dialogue and narration to bring the subject of immigration into focus. The book has a distinct edge to it that never waivers from providing a poignantly brutal honesty of what those who come to this country face. From asylum to marriage petitions and more, this is the kind of novel that sheds light on a system that many people give little thought to and it really is a wonderfully dramatic story. Overall, it's engaging, fast-paced, insightful and thoughtful... well worth the read.
